Actress Bea Alonzo recently shared that she has hypothyroidism, a medical condition wherein the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough hormones to meet the body’s needs. Some symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, fatigue, infertility, joint and muscle pain, and intolerance to cold.

As part of her explanation for temporarily putting her New Year’s resolution to pick up a new hobby on hold, Bea mentioned about it that she had to stop playing tennis for the meantime.

Bea also disclosed that she has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It’s a condition where the ovaries generate an excessive amount of abnormal male hormones that are usually present in small amounts in women. Some symptoms of PCOS include weight gain, difficulty conceiving, irregular or absent periods, and acne or oily skin.

“Aside from having PCOS, I recently was diagnosed with hypothyroidism so that’s the reason behind my gaining weight,” Bea said on her recent vlog post.

Bea explained that her recent weight gain was due to her hypothyroidism and PCOS. She’s now addressing her conditions through exercise, diet, medication, and supplements. She hopes to overcome them soon.

“I’m trying to address it now by working out, by dieting, and taking meds for it and supplements. So, wish me luck, sana matapos na siya,” Bea said.

“So sa mga nagsasabi diyan, ‘Bakit ang taba na daw ni Bea?’ ‘Yun po ‘yung reason. Pasensya na po kayo,” she added.

In response to criticisms, Bea clarified that her medical conditions were the reason behind her weight gain. She then appealed for understanding from those who made comments about her physical appearance.
