UP-Manila graduate tops November 2020 Physician Licensure Examination

A graduate of the University of the Philippines (UP)-Manila finished top 1 among 3,538 passers of the 2020 Physician Licensure Examination held this month. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) posted the official result on Thursday, November 26.

Jomel Garcia Lapides got 88.67% to place first in the professional licensure examination for incoming physicians in the country. Lapides also topped the PRC Nursing Licensure Examination in July 2011.

Patrick Joseph Mabugat from the University of Saint La Salle and Adrian Emmanuel Teves from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) finished second with the same ratings of 88.58 percent.

Henrick Ryan Fong from UST and Raphael Cecilio Rodolfo from UP-Manila placed third with a rating of 88.33 percent. Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health graduate, Rafael Emmanuel Mendoza ranked fourth with 88.17 percent.

Chino Paolo Samson from Lyceum Northwestern University-Dagupan City, and UP Manila graduates Hannah Chito and Tiffany Grace Uy finished fifth place with 88.08 percent.

Tiffany Uy graduated magna cum laude and 2020 class valedictorian in UP College of Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree in 2015 with a general weighted average of 1.004, the highest grade in UP Diliman’s history after World War II.

Moreover, Vice President of the Philippines Leni Robredo’s daughter, Tricia, also passed the medical board exam.

“Our children’s achievements are always sweeter than our own. Congratulations, Trish, Thank you for making us proud many times over,” VP Robredo wrote on a tweet.

The PRC said the results were released seven working days after 4,704 examinees took for the exam conducted in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan De Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Lucena, Tacloban, Tuguegarao, and Zamboanga.

Registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card and Certificate of Registration will be done online from Jan. 11-29, 2021 at prc.gov.ph

The PRC added the date and venue for the oathtaking ceremony of the new physicians will be announced on a later date.
